From elite table tennis to a rapid professional rise

Yang grew up in Queens and spent seven years competing in table tennis. He represented the United States at youth level, with results that included first place in North America and second in the world in the under-13 age group. He later competed in basketball and made United States youth and under-24 dragon-boat teams.

He first played pickleball in April 2023 while attending Cornell University. Yang trained between Ithaca and New York City, reached an APP professional main draw in 2024 and then took a leave of absence from Cornell to pursue the sport full-time. He moved to Austin in early 2025 to train with Jack Munro.

Cornell and the full-time decision

Choosing a narrow professional window

Yang studied business and finance at Cornell while traveling between Ithaca and New York City to train. In 2024, he took a planned leave of absence rather than trying to split his attention between recruiting season and professional pickleball. He relocated to Austin in early 2025 to train full-time with Jack Munro.
